Deborah Jinkins

Deborah Jinkins

Deborah’s work is often described as realistic with a touch of whimsy. The personality of a swan, the complexity of flower petals, the serendipity of fallen leaves, or the attitude of a pelican all become spaces for the viewer to rest, be drawn in and experience a moment of reflection on this wonderful world. Art is meant to be more than a pretty picture on the wall. Art, she believes, feeds our souls and raises us up to live life more fully. She earned a PhD in Education at Texas A&M before becoming a professor of curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in early childhood and literacy learning. In addition to university teaching and research, Deborah has served as an elementary school administrator, compliance officer for the Texas Education Agency, and a research director for the U.S. Department of Education at the Southwest Educational Development Lab in Austin. She has started two schools in her career, one, a high school for dropouts and at-risk students, and the second, NYOS, a model K-12 charter school in Austin, Texas. As a life-long educator, she has tried to teach the value of curiosity and wonder in all of life. She hopes this state of being is communicated to the viewers of her art in every brushstroke.    deborahjinkins.com.         [email protected]
